‘Collective Practice is the recognition that I am connected to countless beings and an awareness of how I impact these beings.’

- Lama Rod Owens, from Love and Rage: The Path of Liberation Through Anger

As a therapist (and as a human!), I have a responsibility to participate in a community of care.

I do that first by nourishing my relationship with myself and with other humans - listening, talking, teaching, learning, laughing, crying, playing, growing, and working together. This is how we progress, and hopefully enjoy life in the process. I also have a responsibility to share my resources of time and money in ways that are sustainable.

My financial commitment

As part of my commitment to social justice, I donate ten percent of the gross revenue from my business services to causes I believe in. What does this mean in practice? For every full-fee ($140) therapy session, I donate $14 to 501c3 organizations. For a reduced-fee session ($40), a $4 donation is made. If I offer an online course for $199, $19.90 goes to support social justice work. You get the idea. These donations are made quarterly, based on actual gross revenue for the previous three months.

I live and work in Austin, Texas, on the Indigenous land of the Tonkawa, Comanche, and Lipan Apache peoples. I serve clients in the state of Michigan, unceded territory of the Anishinaabe Indigenous peoples including Chippewa, Ottawa, and Potawatomi tribes. I choose to allocate my charitable giving in ways that serve these geographical areas, with an emphasis on racial justice, gender equity, and reproductive freedom.

Example shows distribution of 10% of full session fee ($140). Proportionally smaller donations will be generated by sliding scale fee sessions. Updated February 2023.
